Improve Accessibility as a Disability Advocate

be a disability advocate

The Americans With Disabilities Act has driven monumental changes needed to guarantee that people with disabilities can do the work they love and live life to the fullest. Out of the many changes the law inspired, some of the most vital are those that ensure the physical environment is accessible to people with any type of disability.

Many signs of accessibility are highly visible, from public buses with lifts to bathroom stalls designed to accommodate wheelchairs. Dedicated parking spots are one of the most noticeable changes, especially to those who aren’t disabled.

The problem with such obvious changes is that they make it easy for people without disabilities to believe that every place complies with ADA accessibility requirements. But people with disabilities know that visible signs don’t guarantee easy access. Sure, there’s a reserved parking spot, but that doesn’t do much good if the ramp up to the door is unsafe or areas inside the building are impossible to navigate.

But here’s the thing: People with disabilities are the only ones likely to notice the problem.

That’s why we count on you to act as a disability advocate.

We have the expertise to evaluate buildings and public spaces, develop a plan to make the building appropriately accessible, then monitor the changes to ensure ADA compliance. But our team can’t find all the problems. We need you to bring them to our attention.

No matter where you – whether a hotel, government office, school, mall, restaurant, theater, airport, park or anywhere else you go in your daily life or travels – when you find a place that isn’t accessible … contact us.

It won’t cost you a penny, and once the problem is in our hands, we take action.
