EVOLUTION OF ACCESSIBILITY
Accessibility is a complex issue. There are many ways a space can have obstacles and no one knows that better than a person with a disability to whom that barrier is not theoretical—it’s real.
The team at Access Advocates works every day on the evolution of public spaces in the United States in order to make them accessible to everyone. With more than 10,000 plan checks and over 2,500 audits under our belt, we know change can happen. But we also know, without a doubt, that change happens one person and one building at a time.
SPARK BY SPARK, STEP BY STEP
“Changing the world doesn’t happen all at once. It isn’t a big bang. It’s an evolution, the sum of a billion tiny sparks. And some of those sparks will have to come from you.” – Katie Couric
This is what Access Advocates does, but we can’t do it alone. We need “sparks” in the form of people with disabilities who have experienced obstacles who will step forward, share their story, and work with Access Advocates to resolve the issue. These advocates do it for themselves, and they do it for the next person with a disability who comes along. In this way, accessibility in the U.S. will evolve until it is not an add-on, or a retrofit; it will simply be how buildings and public spaces are designed and built.
Using the information you provide regarding your experience with inaccessibility, Access Advocates will walk you through a series of steps designed to address the problem.
The Access Advocate team is made up of architects, technicians and engineers who are experts in ADA compliance. We know the law, so you don’t have to flounder alone in a sea of legalese. Most importantly, our services are free to people with disabilities.
