Even though the American’s with Disabilities Act passed several years ago, people with disabilities are still having to struggle with buildings that don’t have easy access. Many buildings are still not ADA compliant, causing difficulties for many Americans.
Hank Falstad was an ADA compliant designing architect for seventeen years before he decided he needed to champion the cause as an ADA expert and create Access Advocates. The fact that twenty years after the passing of the ADA ninety percent of buildings still weren’t compliant troubled him and he knew he needed to do something about it. He now has a team of knowledgeable advocates helping him with his cause.
If you know of a commercial or government building that is not accessible to people with disabilities, you can contact the ADA experts at Access Advocates to see if we can help. When we get a complaint we will review the architectural permit drawings for the problem, and see what needs to be corrected or improved upon.
After the reviewing process, we will send the plans to a retrofit contractor to get a price estimate for any renovations needed. With the price estimate in hand, we then return to the building and perform an audit of the site. After the building renovation is complete, Access Advocates will return and issue a signed certificate showing that they are now ADA compliant.
If you want to become an advocate for accessibility, contact us with information on buildings that don’t fit all the requirements for being ADA compliant and we can get the process started. The best way to get all buildings up to standards is one building at a time.
