How Can Access Advocates Help With ADA Building Compliance?

ada-building-complianceAccording to federal rules and regulations, ADA building compliance and access for people with disabilities shouldn’t be an afterthought to builders and project managers, but rather a priority. When you enter an establishment in your town or during your travels that does not meet ADA standards, you should report your findings to the experts with Access Advocates. After you have brought the non-compliant building to our attention, the compliance process begins.

How Access Advocates Helps With Building Compliance?

We understand change is a process. There are several steps in the compliance process that can take time, but in the end, you can rest assured knowing you have made an establishment accessible for all. Our team of professionals is dedicated to aiding people with disabilities by making sure ADA compliance regulations are met, one building at a time.

The Process

  • If you have established that a building is non-compliant, or you suspect the building to be non-compliant, report your findings to Access Advocates.
  • Access Advocates will then follow up by preforming a ADA building compliance audit on the building.
  • The areas that are found to be non-compliant within the building will be brought to the attention of the building owner. This report will also contain recommendations on how the building can be retrofitted to meet ADA standards.
  • Access Advocates then follows up with the owner, manager, or architect responsible for the retrofit or alterations. The review of the plans to make the alterations is called a “plancheck.”
  • If AA finds the plans to be rightfully changed to meet ADA standards, a construction company who specializes in ADA building compliance will be hired to make the changes to the building.
  • During the retrofit process, AA presents the cost estimates to a federal judge, once the judge approves the costs the construction begins.
  • After construction is completed, AA preforms another audit to ensure accuracy and ADA compliance.
